Marquis de Sade had no vision. Coyote 131: this is not an apology for de Sade nor for my inclusion of his writings... but an explanation...de Sade, as well as Jean Genet, wrote very politically incorrect writings, about "base" desires, exploring sex and death... both spent a lot of time in prison/asylums for "minor offenses" and wrote out their desires for a multitude of reasons...some that i feel might be valid: so as to exorcise their "demons", desires they did not dare to fulfill...but had a need to express...as well as the fact that one becomes what one tries to suppress most...or simply that they were reveling in their own "intellectual freedom" the right to say or write as they Will...that they were arguing for absolute liberty, hence de Sade's title of Libertine...[it has been well argued that he desired liberty only for white adult males, but i digress] which then leads me to the point that maybe they were writing these "Sadistic" things so as to explore what it was that they "Really" wanted...not that what they wrote was what they really wanted...in de Sade's case he desired quite the opposite of what he wrote...he was a self proclaimed masochist...who wished to be tortured himself...this exploration may seem extreme in their cases, but at least they did not leave any option unexplored...a critical analysis of one"self" to determine what it is one really wants is very important for everyone, magickian or no...and to ernestly do this one must ignore what our parents, significant other or society wants us to do...to allow nothing to chain us down...to do these explorations to become FREE... even if imprisoned by family or by society... in Aghori Tantra, which i also find of interest and seem a connection with the writings of Libertinage...one does achieve transcendental states... becomes "one-with-the-gods" by very wrathful, disgusting means... these Tantrik rites include: self-mutitlation, ritual murder, necrophilia, cannibalism and scatology...for spiritual gains... now some argue that these same ends can be achieved by visulization and symbolism... such as sitting upon a carpet embroidered with skulls instead of upon a corpse in a cremation ground, holding a skulll-shaped cup drinking wine instead of blood, eating bread-dough instead of flesh [fish, animal or human] and just imagining copulation with one's god/dess... and some might argue that just reading about such extreme acts as described in Tantrik [or Libertine] literature is enough for one to realize the REAL...[ie. recitation of Tantrik sastra] i make absolutely no judgement about you, if you do not wish to read such things that is your Will not to...not mine to judge... i do not believe in gods...so i agree completely... there is no divinity.[period]...and no one is advocating child abuse or torture of any unwilling subject...but especially in de Sade's case it is important to remember that he propably fantasied as often, if not more so from the view point of the "victim" than the torturer... and so, it is also important to realize that there are "gateways" [call them divine/demonic, if you must] which one can access both by extreme physical sensation [avoiding such loaded terms as pain/pleasure or dis/comfort] and by causing others to feel such sensations...this is the path of both the Shaman and the Tantrik Yogi...as well as the S/m practioner and the Libertine... actualizing these "gateways", or at least, finding out what one really wants is of import to those intersted in Magick... ask your"self" why these things you read were of offense... if you fully explore this question, you may find very illuminated answers that will prove helpful to your"self"... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---- 3- MOTHER OV GALATIC SPACE by Rowena Pattee Kryder In this first Face ov thee Moon Mother We see thee moon as a tiny sickle.
