Wilson's "Feminist Demonology and the 'Is of Identity'" According to several prominent authorities on neurolinguistics (eg. Korzybski, Bourland, Kellogg, Bois) frequent usage of "is" constructions conditions the personality to dogmatiism, intolerance and over-generalization. In that sentence the word "conditions" carries the same strict meaning as in laboratory research in animal psychology. The bell conditions the dog to salivate. The word "is" conditions people to intolerant behavior. Korzybski went so far as to claim that over-use of "is" potentiates and perpetuates every type of group-hatred and "demonology" poisoning this planet. Thus, I habitually avoid the use of "is" sentences to steer my prose far, far from the rocks of sloppy group generalization and dogma. Most Radical Feminists (and other ideologist) have not learned this elementary verbal antisepsis. I suggest, mildly, the plausible hypothesis that just maybe this helps explain why Radical Feminism differs from earlier fanaticisms only in substituting "males" for "Jews" or "Freemasons" or "Catholics" or other traditonal scapegoats. (Just maybe, I said.) Besides leading to unconscious dogmatism unconscious intolerance, and confusing matters of opinion with matters of fact, the nefarious "is" also conditions us to think in medieval/demonological categories rather than in scientific/existential categories. For instance, "It is raining" only makes sense in a world where rain gods or water elementals cause events; what else can the "it" refer to? (Actually the "it" implying some Stone Age divinity gets into the sentence to provide a subject for the "is". As Korzybski indicated, the "is" continually populates our semantic reality-tunnel with similar spooks and demons..) Thus "all men are oppressors", like "all Jews are usurers" or "all blacks are rapists" belongs in the category that modern semantic science calls "meaningless propositions" or "noise" or in Nietsche's lovely word -- "swindles". -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the Sigil Ritual By: Coyote 129 TimeFix: 2.26.1993 There has been much public discussion, in this forum and elsewhere, on the Sigil Ritual of TOPY. Much of this discussion is based on conjecture and second-hand information - without so much as a cursory examination into the way this important and powerful part of TOPY is actually dealt with by the Individuals within TOPY. This essay hopes to change that. This essay is not meant to convert the reader, nor justify the actions of TOPY to the reader. TOPY, and the sigilization process, are not meant for everyone. Certain Individuals will never be drawn to TOPY, and we accept that and encourage every Individual to determine what is the right path for them. However, we cannot allow Individuals who attempt to influence others thru innuendo and half-truths to continue unchallenged. 1> What is the Sigil Ritual? There are as many answers to this as there are active members of TOPY. Many Individuals consider "Thee Sigil ov thee Three Liquids" to be the definitive TOPY Sigil Ritual. This is not the case. An Individual can become an active part of TOPY, and be condsidered a Ratio One member, without ever doing the Sigil of the Three Liquids. The GreyBook has the following to say about Ritual in general and "Thee Sigil ov thee Three Liquids" in particular: "Any ritual is a way of concentrating and focusing those taking part on a particular aim or idea. It is essential only that the techniques employed have meaning and vitality for the participants. Seen without this belief, as many recorded rituals of the past are now, the processes can seem simply ridiculous, and the mechanical repetition of them certainly would be. Initiates of thee Temple Ov Psychick Youth have developed personal methods or rituals, not only to strengthen and refine their inner objectives, both sexual and practical, but also to provide a fertile basis for those objectives to grow and become real. Although we have no vested interest in others following this example, or contacting the Temple, it is possible that some people will wish to do so. Below are instructions on how to do this. Many people feel unwilling or unable to put our suggestions into practice, due to the effectiveness of social conditioning." i think that an unbiased observer can see the points being made: a> It is essential that the symbols used have direct relevance to the magickian, and are not imposed by an outside entity. b> Being Active in TOPY means developing a personal method of magick, for the express purpose of defining and realizing the Individuals inner objectives. c> Although it is phrased rather obtrusely, "Thee Sigil ov thee Three Liquids" is a suggested ritual - not a required one. We have no interest in forcing Individuals to do things they do not wish to do. However, the fact that it inspires some sort of discomfort in most Individuals (myself included) can account for its powerful initiatory effect. TOPY does not rely on the GreyBook as itUs only reference to the Sigil process. The following quotes come from the BlackBook, sometimes called the SigilBook, in which the Sigil process is more clearly outlined and more suggestions are given: In Thee Grey Book we discuss thee Sigil ov three liquids which encoumpasses thee essence ov thee practical methods we employ; butter it should be remembered that everything we say is only a guide to further experimentation and not a dictate to be followed blindly in faith. A Sigil can be designed to answer any desire, without limitation or constraint. Thee aim need in no ways be sexual. Thee Sigil encompasses all possibility. As we have said before, thee methods described by TOPY are but guides to Individual action. As long as thee Sigil contains thee basic element ov focused will, all other details can be varied. Indeed it is essential that thee ritual be one that is reflective ov who you are, and so should be thee result ov personal input intuitively arrived at. Although some days and times might have particular significance to an Individual and thee Temple, a potent Sigil can be performed at any time on any day. Although we strongly recommend thee making ov a Sigil Paper, other methods ov recording may also be incorporated into thee ritual: polaroids, photographs, cassette recordings, drawings (automatic or otherwise), film or video. As with thee Sigil Paper, all these methods should be used in thee ritual to heighten thee intensity ov what it is you do, rather than purely to document thee event. Let intuition not logic be thee guide in this, and experiment freely without embarrassment or doubt. As evidenced by these statements, TOPY will not reject any honest attempt by an Individual to grow and change thru the Sigil process. The Sigil of the Three Liquids is merely a beginning, the Individual is encouraged at all levels to innovate for themselves, to push the boundries laid out for them and to attempt to reach their goals in any way they can. The Sigil ritual is not a tool for brainwashing, it is not a bonding ritual, it is simply an Individual taking time to determine their goals and taking action to accomplish them. 2> Why are Sigils collected by the Station? This question has caused a lot of concern by those interested in beginning the sigil process, yet afraid to commit the trust to TOPY of sending in their charged body fluids. It is a valid question if one sincerly believes that ones own psychick energy can be used against you. The main reasons for sending in Sigils are: 1> The Sigil files are considered in TOPY to be very much like a psychick bank. It is our contention that if thousands of sigils, all representing the Will of each Individual, are concentrated in a single location their energy will complement and enhance the effects of the sigils. This, of course, cannot be proven - but neither can most magickal contentions. 2> The Sigil files themselves form a library of sexual magickal research. Any TOPY Individual who wishes to visit the Station and study the methods and ideas stored in the Sigil file is welcome to do so. By encouraging each member to create their own magickal system - while at the same time encouraging communication between Individuals - TOPY has created an overall magickal system that has no single dogma but can still be taught and shared with others. If an Individual wishes to terminate their relationship with TOPY, for whatever reason, their Sigil file will be returned to them if they request it.
